Whitetail
Whitetail deer (Odocoileus virginianus) are medium-sized deer native to North America, historically most abundant in regions from southern Canada through the United States and into Central America; over time they have expanded their range and now occupy a wide variety of habitats across the continent. Recognizable by the white underside of their tail and the males’ branched antlers, whitetails favor mixed woodlands, agricultural edges, and brushy habitats where they browse shrubs, forbs, and mast; their adaptability to varied environments and flexible diet have allowed them to thrive in both wild and suburban landscapes.
